Muzzerone, Liguria! Never too young to go climbing

Updated: Sep 16, 2019

Muzzerone is in Liguria, close to Portovenere (a lovely town at the end of the peninsula), overlooking the gulf of La Spezia.

It has some of the best walls for climbing in Italy, almost all with the backdrop of the sea behind you.

There are a lot of crags, summing up to probably 1000 single pitch crags and probably 40 multi pitches (from 5 to 12 pitches, 100 to 300m routes)

The best place to stay, is Rifigio Muzzerone, a kind of mountain hut run by one of the local guides there, an active climber and mountain rescuer.

From the rifugio, you have an amazing view on the gulf! And it's nearby the crags (some can be reached walking from there)

We can safely say that we took Sofia for climbing from a very early age...

This first time we took Sofia to the climbing wall. She was 2 months old in this beautiful place in Italy. Slept in the mountain hut (Rifugio Muzzerone) 40mins walk from the park and climbed on the most amazing limestone walls above the sea!
